ABOUT

D3D

How we started

Originating in a small rural community in northern Minnesota, D3D labs can proudly call themselves an American-made business. All our dental and orthodontic appliances are made with materials that originate in the USA and are produced right here in the USA

Why D3D?

We have taken the traditional method of casting and fabrication of dental and orthodontic appliances and transformed it through the utilization of 3D printing. In this time of change, our goal is to work together with other appliance labs to help them grow by lowering overhead, thus increasing profits. We can significantly reduce the turnaround time of many products. At D3D, we strive to provide the highest level of service in the industry.

Meet the creator Dr. Todd Sandwick - CEO & Founder

Dr. Sandwick comes from a family of dentists: his father Dave was a dentist—the Dean retainer was named after him, his middle name is Dean—and his sister Jill is a dentist too. His practice is in the farming community of Fosston in rural northwestern Minnesota.

He graduated with his DDS from the University of Minnesota in 1993. During that period he spent seven years doing lab work at the University and at Spring Lake Dental Studio, making crowns, bridges, full and partial dentures, and so on.

In addition to his practice, he has been on several mission trips to Honduras via Rotary International, providing basic dental care to rural villagers in mountainous regions in that country, and has also participated in the Mission of Mercy clinic in Bemidji, MN in 2013, which provided essential dental care to low-income Minnesotans.

They say that necessity is the mother of invention, and that’s what lead to him developing the Dean retainer, for which he received a US patent in September 2014.

Quotes from our clients

The Dean has a much nicer fit then my previous acrylic one, it's so small you almost cannot tell
it's there. It's very comfortable to wear. While I prefer not to eat with a retainer in, I find it
refreshing that I can take a bite out of something in public without removing a slobbery retainer.
I would never go back to the acrylic one.
